Generation: 3

  1. 6.  HOPE, Robert

Robert married WIMPOLE, Rosalie Frances in 1861 in London, Norfolk, UK, and was divorced in 1877. Rosalie (daughter of WIMPOLE, Richard Wrey and CALLOW, Elizabeth Mary) was born in 1840 in Dublin, Ireland; died in 1929 in Tatura, Victoria, Australia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 7.  WIMPOLE, Rosalie Frances was born in 1840 in Dublin, Ireland (daughter of WIMPOLE, Richard Wrey and CALLOW, Elizabeth Mary); died in 1929 in Tatura, Victoria, Australia.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Miscellaneous as specified: 20 Sep 1825, North Walsham, Norfolk, UK; Elizabeth Mary Callow is witness to the marriage of William Shardalow and Mary Browne. Elizabeth Mary Callow's daughter Rosalie Hope nee Wimpole can be found living with William and Mary in the 1861 Census and is recorded as William's niece.
    • Residence: 1851, Norwich, Norfolk, UK; 1851 Census, she is 11 and living with a family as ‘no relation’
    • Residence: 1861, Heckingham, Norfolk, UK; 1861 Census Rosalie Frances Hope and her daughter Rosalie Mary Hope are living with William and Mary Shardalow as William’s ‘nieces’. I cannot find any evidence for niece and suspect something fishy! Rosalie Mary Hope emigrates with her mother to Australia, marries and gives birth to a daughter they name Rosalie Mary Shardalow Walker.
    • Miscellaneous as specified: 12 Aug 1875, Silsden, Yorkshire, UK; Mary Shardalow is witness to marriage of Rosalie Hope nee Wimpole to William Lund. Mary's husband had died in Norwich 6.5 months earlier and Mary would die 5.5 months later in Staffordshire. My suspicions are that Rosalie Frances Wimpole was the daughter of William Shardalow and Elizabeth Mary Callow (who was married to Richard Wrey Wimpole) but this is just guesswork. William and Mary had no children that we've found. Other options include adoption or Richard and Mary being her parents.

    Notes:

    Divorced:
According to the divorce court case Rosalie left Robert in 1873. He alleged she was committing adultery with William Lund and he claimed £1,000 damages. William and Rosalie denied it. The court must have been unaware that Rosalie and William had married in1875 thereby committing bigamy. The marriage record shows her as a widow and William as a Divinity student!! The latter is interesting given Rosalie’s father being accused of pretending to be a parson in Gosport.

    Children:
    1. 3. HOPE, Rosalie Mary was born in 1865 in Hoxne, Suffolk, UK; died in 1956 in Tatura, Victoria, Australia.

Generation: 4

  1. 14.  WIMPOLE, Richard Wrey was born in 1803 in Broad gate or Purton, Devon, UK (son of WIMPOLE, Simon and ORAM, Mary); died in 1873 in Prahran, Victoria, Australia.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Miscellaneous as specified: 1830, Gosport; In court for being an Imposter Pastor. Newspaper report describes him as accused of swindling money of parishioners to help the poor but keeping it! But it seems that he was found not guilty. Just as well as the court didn’t sound too lenient - 7 of the next 8 defendants are sentenced to death for horse stealing!
    • Miscellaneous as specified: 1846, Chester; In court again for ‘Larceny’ stealing blankets, candlesticks and carpet worth about £2. Sentenced to 3 months imprisonment with hard labour.
    • Residence: 1851, Queens Prison, Southwark, London; This prison is for the indebted.

Richard married CALLOW, Elizabeth Mary in 1833 in Camarthen, Wales, UK. Elizabeth (daughter of CALLOW, William and GEM, Elizabeth) was born in 1809 in Ombersley, Worcestershire, UK; died in 1882. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 15.  CALLOW, Elizabeth Mary was born in 1809 in Ombersley, Worcestershire, UK (daughter of CALLOW, William and GEM, Elizabeth); died in 1882.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Miscellaneous as specified: 20 Sep 1825, North Walsham, Norfolk, UK; Elizabeth Mary Callow is witness to the marriage of William Shardalow and Mary Browne.
